The induction programme provides support in the first year of teaching, which helps NQTs to give their best to pupils, and contribute to school improvement and to raising classroom standards. It also provides a foundation for the NQT's long-term continuing professional development and career development.

Induction arrangements apply to all new teachers whether they are permanent, supply or on a fixed term contract of one term or more. Supply teachers cannot work for more than one year and a term on short-term engagements of less than a term without having completed the induction period. Please note that teachers can only start induction if they have passed the skills tests and can show evidence of QTS certificate.
