School monitoring and support visits

In the summer term 2009 we began a rolling programme of school monitoring in 25% of schools employing NQTs. These intensive support visits will be aimed at a cross section of schools and will include those new to supporting NQTs, those employing NQTs on part-time contracts, schools with large numbers of NQTs and those where support has been identified through assessment reporting.

Under this broad range of criteria your school may be included in the monitoring visit programme for 2009/10.

During our visit we would need to meet with the headteacher, all (or a representative group) of your NQTs, mentor(s), and assessor(s) to discuss induction policies and procedures and gather feedback regarding LA support for induction.

To enable the work to be completed as efficiently as possible we have produced a support and monitoring proforma (word) that covers the essential requirements of a healthy induction programme. Please familiarise yourself with what we shall be looking for and need to see during the visit. As a form of self assessment, prior to the visit, please complete as much of the proforma as possible and make it available to us on arrival. This information will then be used as a basis for discussion during the visit.

Please also refer to the support and monitoring visits check list (word) of information regarding the visit.

You will receive a summary report of the visit for your school records. This will identify the good induction practice in place in your school and, where appropriate, offer recommendations for further development.
