It is a statutory requirement for local authorities to set attainment targets two years in advance. Senior LA officers will be meeting in the autumn term 2010 with representatives from the DCSF to discuss targets at KS2 and GCSE for 2011/12.
Ealing uses a 'bottom-up' approach to target setting where individual pupil targets are informed by prior key stage results. These individual targets are then aggregated to form school targets, which are in turn used as the basis for the LA's targets.
Target setting is an essential part of the LA's commitment to raising educational standards for all the borough's children. It shows what we need to achieve and provides a clear focus for improvements, particularly in teaching and learning. You can find out more about this in the new DCSF target setting guidance.
The LA produces a target setting support pack for every school. This can be found on the school reports page.
