Fair funding
Fair funding is the term commonly used to describe the system used by local authorities to allocate funding for maintained primary, secondary and special schools. Based substantially on the outline prepared by the Department for Education and Skills (now DfE) issued in January 2001, it replaced and updated the local management of schools (LMS) system used since 1990. It was further revised in 2003 and again in 2007/08 to take account of changes in the system used to fund local authorities.

School funding 2009/11
At its meeting on 20 November 2008, the Schools Forum considered the report on school funding for 2009-11 (word). The report sets out the projected level of funding available; provides information on the expected level of inflation and sets out a number of funding pressures and priorities which the Forum will be asked to consider further at its meeting in February.

Fair funding consultation 2007
In the summer, the LA commissioned an independent consultant to carry out a review of Ealing’s school funding formula prior to the three-year budget period 2008 to 2011.
The main focus of the project was to ensure that the funding formula supported the Council’s priorities as set out in the Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP).
This consultation document (word) sets out the national and local financial context; summarises the consultant’s main recommendations that are relevant to school funding over the next three-year period; and provides details as to how these could be implemented.
