Performance management is an ongoing cycle of review, planning, development and evaluation for all staff that link school and individual development needs in order to raise standards.
Teachers' performance management is now governed by The Education (School Teacher Performance Management) (England) Regulations 2006.This includes better planning at the start of the cycle and greater transparency, consistency and fairness in assessments at the end of the cycle. It also provides improved access to continuing professional development and other support that teachers need to carry out their jobs effectively.
The revised professional standards for teachers set out what is expected of teachers throughout their careers. These provide a backdrop to performance management discussions.
Although there are currently no statutory requirements in place for school support staff, Ealing is committed to equality in the development of all staff. We recommend they also have a performance management process, which complements that of teachers. Therefore, we have developed a support staff performance management scheme, which can be used in its entirety or adapted to suit a schools needs.
