Reviewers and reviewees - knowledge and skills needed

Everyone involved in performance management, such as reviewers and reviewees, senior school leaders and governors, need to be familiar with the revised regulations and accompanying RIG guidance (summary on Teachernet ). In addition, familiarity with the schools performance management policy is recommended to ensure consistency of approach throughout the school.

When setting objectives reviewers should be mindful of the school improvement plan, pupil progress and school self-evaluation as well as the individual's job role and career aspirations.

Please note the use of the threshold application forms will cease from 1 September 2009 (round 10), and schools will start to use the outcomes of their last two performance reviews to assess whether a teacher meets the post-threshold standards. Further guidance is available on our post threshold page.

Also if teachers are registered for the Chartered London Teacher Status (CLT) (link opens in new website) performance management objectives will also need to take account of these standards.

Below are some materials which can be used/adapted for performance management objective setting and review meetings.
