Key messages
- visitor control
- ensure that all visitors sign in and out and are issued with a visitors badge
- ensure that all visitors are given the appropriate safety briefing i.e fire procedures
- ensure that there are procedures which will allow staff to challenge visitors not escorted and that children know how and when to report strangers on the school site
- access control
- ensure that there is an effective means of access control and that a safe and secure boundary is maintained, i.e. automated gates, access controlled doors etc
- ensure that access to areas within the school is restricted to allow only authorised personnel or escorted visitors to enter
- visitors and contractors on site
- all visitors and contractors allowed on site must be authorised and escorted at all times or have a Enhanced CRB check
- adult supervision
- ensure that the appropriate levels of adult supervision is maintained at lunch/breaks/play/etc times
- ensure that appropriate levels of safeguarding controls are maintained at the beginning of the school day when children and parents enter the school and at the close of the school day when parents pick up children
- policies and risk assessments
- ensure that all policies and procedures are relevant and up to date: i.e. bullying, child protection, contractors working on school sites etcetera
