The Ealing Safeguarding Children Board (ESCB) has accepted an e-safety policy and strategy and is in the process of implementing it across all Ealing agencies that work with children.

E-safety audit launch

A key part of the strategy is an audit tool that the ESCB has asked all agencies to complete by November 2012. The audit is intended as a development tool rather than just a snapshot of existing practice.

Schools are expected to carry out this audit and in the autumn term will be asked to complete the audit through an online survey.

By distributing the e-safety audit document and other related documentation now, we hope that schools will have some time to conduct reviews and where necessary implement changes to their provision before the online survey is launched in September 2012.

The audit document you have been given provides a column which refers you to the most appropriate document / website etcetera, and identifies sources of further support.

Ofsted January 2012 framework

School's development of e-safety practice will be a contribution to safeguarding work that can be reported to Ofsted during school inspections under the January 2012 framework.

It demonstrates support for safeguarding beyond the statutory minimum, which is a commitment sought by Ofsted.

All e-safety audit document and other related documentation provided by the School Effectiveness Team has been reviewed and is now available on the above link and also on the London MLE in the ICT room (Fronter website)

Briefings, support and training

E-safety will be on the agenda for the primary headteachers briefing on Wednesday 18 April 2012.

Schools seeking further support in developing their e-safety provision may wish to consider the following support:

Extended Services SLA
Sarah Thompson's team can provide e-Safety sessions for parents and / or pupil assemblies.

Curriculum ICT SLA
Mark Robinson offers the same but can also provide staff with more in depth exploration of the range of curricular resources available for use with KS1 and KS2 pupils and which overlap with many aspects of the schemes of work in PSHE and SRE.

The Health Improvement Team
Karen Gibson's team can provide support around policy development, curriculum development around PSHE and SRE, and SRE workshops for parents to make the connections between e-safety and SRE.

The next CEOP ThinkUKnow e-Safety course (Ealing CPD online) is:
Date: 21 June 2012
Time: 9am - 4pm
Location: EEC
