The national curriculum is assessed from the foundation stage, with the foundation stage profile. Further assessment occurs throughout the key stages.
Key stage 1 tests are marked internally by year 2 teachers. The results are reported to the LA who pass them onto the DfES. Most maintained schools are audited every four years to ensure the consistency and accuracy of their marking. At key stages 2 and 3, tests are marked externally.
