Magic Lantern

"Wonderful. The children were interested throughout and I was pleased to hear how much they remembered about Henry VIII and his wives."
- Stanhope Primary School.

"Good value for money and very valid in terms of the art curriculum. Will definitely book again." - Christ Church Junior School.

Magic Lantern is a charity that uses slide presentations to bring the works of great painters into the classroom.

The presentations cover painting topics such as colour, brushmarks, light and shade. Magic Lantern also offer presentations on QCA areas including portraits, relationships, journeys, bodies in motion and mother nature. As well as great painters, presentations can be given on the Victorians, Tudors and Greeks.

The service is available to primary, secondary and special schools. Presentations will be adapted to the age and ability of the pupils. The project has been running for 10 years with great success.

Each session lasts one hour and includes time for questions and answers. Before the visit schools must ensure that there is a white screen available and that the classroom is at least 80% blacked out, perhaps by sticking black paper to the windows.

Magic Lantern do not accept more than 30 pupils per primary class and 20 pupils per secondary class.

Presentations cost £30. Schools booking six presentations have one free.
