The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA) 2001 placed new duties on schools with regard to pupils’ access to education. These new duties came into force in September 2002. LAs and schools are required to plan to increase access to the physical environment of the school and to the curriculum for children and young people with a disability, as well as improving the communication of information to pupils with disabilities and their parents/carers.
