Long-term sickness

Every year some 100,000 children and young people require education outside school because of illness or injury. Although the situation of these children will vary widely, they all run the risk of a reduction in self-confidence and educational achievement.

The study centre's (pdf) pupil support unit aims to minimise disruption to normal school by continuing education as normally as the incapacity allows. The centre provides education of sick children at Ealing Hospital. Children receive tuition either on site or at home. The medical team teachers support reintegration to schools as and when appropriate.

The hospital school provides tuition for children across the phases at Ealing Hospital. In some cases, these pupils are recurrent admissions. A few pupils who are receiving individual tuition may also access hospital provision for part of the week, if appropriate.
