LAT: Learner achievement tracker
LftM: 'Leading from the Middle' - a
blended-learning programme. Learning takes place through a
combination of face-to-face sessions, online activities and
school-based activity.
LiG: Leadership Incentive Grant - began in April
2003 and was a three year pump-priming initiative designed to raise
standards, strengthen leadership and stimulate collaboration among
communities of schools to improve teaching and learning -
discontinued in March 2006.
LMS: Local Management of Schools - the system for
allocating funds to primary and secondary schools introduced in
1990. In 1999, it was superceded by the Fair Funding system.
LMSS: Local Management of Special Schools -
the system for allocating funds to Special schools introduced
in 1990. In 1999, it was superceded by the Fair Funding system.
LPSH: Leadership Programme for Serving
Headteachers - A programme for heads established in the role and
looking to develop their professional qualities, skills and
expertise further. Now replaced by the 'Head for the Future'
programme.

PCT: Primary Care Trust - the care provided by
people you normally see when you first have a health problem. It
might be a visit to a doctor or a dentist, an optician for an eye
test, or just a trip to a pharmacist to buy cough mixture. NHS
walk-in centres and the NHS Direct phone line service are also part
of primary care. All of these services are managed for you by your
local PCT who will work with local authorities and other agencies
that provide health and social care locally to make sure that your
local community's needs are being met.
