Finding your way back to the homepage

Clicking on the EGfL icon on the top left hand side of any page will return you to the EGfL homepage.

Site utilities

top_nav

The site utilities are the coloured tabs along the top of every page. Their purpose is to help you find what you are looking for and also find out about us.

The green about us tab links to information about Ealing Council and its children’s services.

The orange contacts tab links to the contact details for Ealing children’s services and personnel, as well as contact details for schools.

The blue A-Z tab links to an alphabetical list of content on the site. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, the A-Z index may be the easiest way to find it.

The purple help tab leads to this page, which explains how the site is organised and how to navigate it.

The purple jargon buster tab lists definitions for the abbreviations and acronyms used on the EGfL. If you spot any you think we should add, please contact the EGfL web team (contact details below).

The purple site map tab lists links to every topic within the left-hand navigation on the homepage. It helps you to see how information is organised and allows you to go directly to the relevant page.

Left hand navigation

lh_nav

The left hand navigation is the main route to information on the EGfL. It is divided into ten main sections - teaching and learning; behaviour and attendance; pupil health and wellbeing; school leadership and improvement; school governance; school safety and site management; data and finance; human resources/personnel; career and professional development; and training.

This is based on the Department for Children, Schools and Families’ (DCSF) recommended website structure.

Links to the ten main sections are listed on the left hand side of the homepage. This is called the left hand navigation bar. Clicking on a link in the left hand navigation will open that section and a new left hand navigation bar will appear for that section.

Homepage quick links

rh_nav

The panel of links on the right hand side of the homepage provides you with quick links to some of the EGfL’s most popular and frequently visited pages.

Breadcrumb trail

breadcrumb

Underneath the main banner picture on all pages of the EGfL (except the homepage), you will find a breadcrumb trail, so called because it provides a way of retracing your steps back through the website.

Breadcrumb trails work by showing you the context of the page (how it is nested within the site’s hierarchy); therefore, you will find that it does not always take you back along the same route you came. You can use the back button in your browser to go back to the actual pages you visited.

Finding related information

Look out for links listed on the right hand side of pages on the EGfL. These links highlight related pages or documents on the EGfL or other websites.

Search facility

advanced_search

The search facility at the top right of page provides another route for finding information on the EGfL. Type a keyword or phrase, select the area of the site you want to search, and click go to see a list of results containing your keyword or phrase.
