Fairtrade fortnight runs from 27 February - 11 March and there is still plenty of time to plan an activity for your school.
Ealing Fairtrade Group works in partnership with Ealing Council to raise awareness about Fairtrade amongst young people in the borough’s schools. The purpose of Fairtrade is to ensure better terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
Free resources are available to help your students and teachers make the most of this event: http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/schools/
This year’s theme is "Take a Step in 2012", encouraging people to take one step this year to support and promote Fairtrade. Ealing Fairtrade Group would like schools to be creative and make decorative footprints showing the Fairtrade steps that pupils (and teachers!) will take. If you can do this, or have any other ideas, please let us know by emailing info@ealingfairtrade.org.uk
Children are very interested in the idea of ‘fairness’ and keen to learn more about the global implications. Fairtrade links in to the following areas of the curriculum: Geography, Citizenship, RE and PHSE. Schools are encouraged to buy and use as many Fairtrade products as possible. Fairtrade tea, coffee and snacks may already be used in the staff room, but schools can also now source Fairtrade bananas and fruit juices for the canteen, Fairtrade cotton for school uniform and Fairtrade Sports balls for PE. For information on stockists contact info@ealingfairtrade.org.uk
All schools are invited to submit details of any Fairtrade activity (curricular or extracurricular) already taking place for inclusion on the borough’s website www.ealingfairtrade.org.uk
