Draft school teachers’ pay and conditions document 2017
17 Jul 2017
The government has published a report of the school teachers review body (STRB) which sets out recommendations on the teachers’ pay award for 2017.
The government have confirmed that they intend to accept the recommendations of the STRB but will first consult for a three week period and seek the views of consultees, on accepting the recommendations and the draft new school teachers pay and conditions document (STPCD).
It is rare for this consultation to lead to any significant changes to the STRBs recommendations however, we must await its outcome before we can confirm to you that these recommendations have been incorporated into the new STPCD.
We intend to issue further guidance once the consultation is completed and the STPCD 2017 is issued.
Summary of changes
The draft STPCD for 2017 currently states the following on the pay award:
- A two percent uplift has been applied to the statutory minimum and maximum of the main pay range
- A one percent uplift has been applied to the minima and maxima of all other pay ranges in the national framework (including headteacher groups) and all allowances across all pay ranges
- Except for teachers and leaders on the minima of their respective ranges or group ranges, schools must determine - in accordance with their own pay policy - how to take account of the uplift to the national framework in making individual pay progression decisions.
