Foodbank for vulnerable families during the Christmas holidays
15 Nov 2017
With the school Christmas holidays fast approaching, we have been reminded that for some families the school holidays can be a financially challenging time, particularly those with multiple children.
Ealing Foodbank and the School partnerships & enrichment team (SP&T) have spoken about the best way to support our most vulnerable families during this time.
Following a successful pilot during the summer holidays, Ealing Food Bank has widened the criteria to include FSM, Ever 6 pupils and any families identified as financially vulnerable that may not be eligible for FSM.
Action for schools
Schools are asked to:
- Invite / identify targeted families, request a foodbank referral letter (see downloads), if they feel that the holiday period will significantly impact their ability to provide sufficient food for their family
- Complete the letter and check the information is correct (name, address and number of beneficiaries in the household)
- Print the letter onto school header paper and sign to confirm authenticity, ensuring all details are printed to include the foodbank monitoring box.
Actions for families
Families will then need to visit their nearest Foodbank. Click on the following link to view:
Families can receive up to a maximum of two emergency food parcels during the holiday period (one a week).
The letter will expire on 31 December 2017.
Families that continue to require support will need to access a referral centre who can meet with them to discuss their long term needs.
Actions for referral agencies
If you are a referral agency and would like to become a registered voucher holder for the foodbank, please contact the Foodbank Office:
