Ealing revised policy reminder
The revised Ealing policy on 'Supporting pupils with Medical Conditions at School', based on the Department for Education (DfE) guidance 'Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions at School' (2014) is available on the related content link below.
As a reminder, we asked that all governing boards (GBs) review this policy according to their specific needs before adopting in the autumn 2018 term.
Please can you ensure that this has been carried out and that all staff are aware and as appropriate trained with regards to the procedures to follow especially in the event of an emergency.
Complete the baseline audit
As part of the policy (see related content below), appendix one contains a useful checklist to ascertain the school’s current provision and future needs.
In order to assess the impact of this policy across the LA, for any schools yet to complete, we would be grateful if a copy of the checklist could be completed (one per school) via our Survey Monkey version on this link:
If you have completed a paper or electronic version of appendix one in the policy and would prefer to send us a copy of that then please send to firstname.lastname@example.org
The results will be grouped by phase, anonymised and only used to inform future training and support needs.
As part of the provision to support this policy, there is also a wide range of additional information and resources covering a range of specific medical conditions e.g. asthma, anaphylaxis on the EGfL managing medical conditions in schools page . Here you will also find guidance on what could be included in job descriptions and information relating to Ealing insurance.
The Council’s medical malpractice policy with its insurers provides for blanket coverage for the medical malpractice risks for all the insured activities of Ealing Council and schools (that buy into its insurance arrangements) subject to certain specific risks being excluded.
