Changes to the health improvement team: A sad farewell to our RSE and PSHE expert Claire Vaughan
16 Jul 2020
Many of you will have worked with Claire, or know of her work with PSHE co-ordinators, senior leaders and head teachers across the borough during her time working as a health improvement officer for PSHE & RSE in the health improvement team.
Claire has always valued working with others and has built positive working relationships with many PSHE co-ordinators during her time working with Ealing schools. She has led networks, conferences, events and trainings that have always received positive feedback and she has inspired change and generated enthusiasm and interest in a subject that has often been referred to as the 'Cinderella' subject! Not in Ealing!
Claire's work over the last four years has included working with a group of Ealing PSHE teachers to review and re-write the entire Ealing PSHE scheme of work - twice! She has also galvanised changes to the way FGM is taught in schools and inspired staff to work together with parents and communities to enable the teaching and learning of relationships and sex education even during times of great challenge and controversy.
It is therefore with a heavy heart that I share the news that Claire has made the decision to return to Ireland over the summer. She will continue to work part-time with the team and schools virtually from Ireland next half term offering support from a distance in policy writing, training and delivering bespoke support where possible. Other interim arrangements are in the pipeline and I will share those with you in the new academic year.
Please do feel free to send me any farewell messages you would like included in Claire's leaving card which we will be giving to her at the end of July.
Finally, if you or your PSHE lead have any questions about Claire's departure or the arrangements for continued support next year please do not hesitate to get in touch - details below.
