Come to Pitzhanger for a special Teachers’ CPD session in partnership with the University of West London.
This special free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session for teachers and educators in all key stages explores how to use local cultural hubs, like Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, as teaching resources across the curriculum.
Co-presented with the University of West London, teachers will take part in a creative workshop with an artist practitioner from Pitzhanger and two practical workshops with academics from UWL.
First, artist and educator Cai Jia Eng will lead a creative workshop based on a sample lesson plan interacting with Pitzhanger’s current gallery exhibition, Chinwag by Alice Irwin. This lesson plan will be available to all participants after the session.
Then, University of West London academics Ben Dunning and Isil Onol will lead a talk and workshop designed to examine the importance of detail in graphic design practice and process. Participants will be supported in exploring, evaluating and generating concepts based on the theme of detail, and how these techniques can be incorporated into their own teaching activities.
Finally, voice practitioner and lecturer Serena Braid will lead a practical vocal workshop, aiming to equip teachers at all levels with foundational principles around healthy vocal embodiment for effective communication. Through exercises and dialogue, participants will be able to reflect on their own vocal habits, exchange ideas and practically explore breath, sound and language.
This session is open to teachers in any key stage and subject, though with a particular focus on art teachers. Educators working in out-of-school settings are also welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided in this session.
