Link governors

Although not a statutory requirement, most governing boards have link governors to act as a 'link' between the school and local authority to advise their governing board of training opportunities available and on topical developments within governance.

The term 'link governor'is also used for specific subjects/areas.

In Ealing these have traditionally included:

  • Looked after children
  • Special educational needs
  • Child protection /safeguarding
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Sex, relationships, teenage pregnancy.

In other authorities, these are also link governor areas:

  • Health and safety
  • ICT
  • Behaviour and attendance
