We recently informed schools that the emergency management plan template in section 14 of the critical incident plan had been updated to include business continuity (see related content link below). Recent finance audits by the Authority's audit team have highlighted that there is a need to review business continuity plans in schools.

Guidance for schools

In accordance with the Education & Skills Funding Agency guidance detailed in the SFVS document, schools are advised to have an appropriate business continuity or disaster recovery plan, including an up-to-date asset register and adequate insurance.

You can read the guidance on GOV.UK:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/schools-financial-value-standard-and-assurance-sfvs

In practice most schools hold this information but in various forms and locations. To help schools complete the annual SFVS and assurance forms, schools are advised to consolidate this information into a simple plan.

There are several examples of good practice on:
The Key for School Leaders website.
