Ealing is on track to launch its Trailblazer project from January 2020. The staff who will make up the two Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are currently being recruited.

In addition, the selection criteria to decide which schools should be invited to be partner schools in year one have been agreed by the steering group. The selection criteria are based on two factors:

  1. Deprivation of the school population
  2. Mental health leadership and knowledge within the school.

Deprivation statistics have been used to rank the level of need for mental health intervention within a school because deprivation serves as a proxy indicator for poor mental health.

Having a mental health lead and someone trained in MHFA has been used to rank the level of commitment to invest in implementing a whole school approach in each school.

Invitations to the sixteen schools ranked the highest based on these criteria will be sent in the post and via email to the head teacher in the next two weeks.

Schools who are not invited to join the project as partners at this stage will be able to access an outreach- based service from the MHSTs once this has been established.
