Changes to TfL bus services as children return to school

14 Sep 2020

For this initial period, as schools resume, until the end of October, TfL are putting on additional services.

Some are additional regular services during peak times to enable children and their parents/carers to make the school journey and others are specifically for children, travelling without an adult. Parents are strongly encouraged NOT to use these special ‘school service’ buses. This is to maximise capacity.

Bus passes

Please also note that no primary age child needs a bus pass to travel on TfL services.

If, however, a child is tall, they may be challenged and all they need to do is to explain they are under 11. It might be a good idea to explain this to your Year 5 and 6 children who travel alone.

Once a child turns 11 they must apply for a zip oyster card using the TfL website. Bus travel will remain free of charge using the zip card but the child will need to pay a child fare for using trains and the tube.
