London car free day - Tuesday 22 September

14 Sep 2020

London car free day takes place on Tuesday 22 September.

This is the perfect opportunity to promote active travel at your school. You could run an activity on the 22nd to encourage families to walk, scoot and cycle.

This will help to reduce car use and support a car free environment around your school, whilst improving air quality, reducing car emissions and increasing children’s physical activity.

Taking part is a great way to set the tone for the rest of the year’s activities and encourage families to use sustainable modes of travel throughout the year. This will also help schools towards STARS accreditation in 2021, achieving 2 stories on the system, one for planning and the other for taking part.

In 2019, one Ealing school promoted Car Free Day by setting the example to their community: no staff drove to school by car that day! A simple, yet effective message to show the community how important active travel is for everyone's health.
