Change to the way schools receive encrypted emails

The way schools receive secure encrypted emails with sensitive information from the local authority is changing as Egress is being decommissioned on 1 March.

Instead of receiving Egress emails from the LA, you will receive Outlook encrypted emails where LA colleagues need to communicate personal or sensitive information. The local authority will begin using Microsoft 365 encryption over the next few weeks to ensure any issues schools encounter are resolved ahead of full implementation on 1 March.

How to access Outlook encrypted emails

You will need to follow a process in order to access emails. This will include using a onetime passcode. You can see the steps you would need to follow in the attached guide 'How your recipient opens your ecrypted email' (see download).

Please note that if schools continue to send Egress mails, LA staff will still be able to open them.

If you experience any issues opening LA Outlook encrypted emails, please contact your school ICT support service in the first instance but then, if need be, refer back to the LA sender to raise with LBE ICT.
