Offer of short-term military support for schools Covid-19 testing

12 Jan 2021

DfE has been in touch about the short-term military support that is available and is asking whether this is something useful - either for individual schools and colleges, or in the form of a wider conversation with school leaders.

The nature of support will depend on the requirements of individual schools and colleges.

Some military personnel will provide remote support to schools and colleges with strategic planning, assisting with practical elements of delivering mass testing set up. This support may include answering questions about setting up and running a mass testing site for a large school. In other cases, it can include ‘on the ground’ support to schools and colleges to assist with setting up testing sites where testing would otherwise not be able to go ahead.

A number of schools have already benefitted from such support and have found it very helpful. Please note that the military support does not extend to providing personnel to run the testing itself.
