Recording, monitoring and quality assurance of alternative provision placements made by schools

27 Apr 2021

Ofsted requires local authorities to report on children not in receipt of full-time education in the usual way.

This includes the duty to monitor pupils placed by mainstream and special schools in off-site provision. This is verified by the LA twice each academic year.

Full time education is generally accepted to be from 18 - 25 hours a week. If your school provides off-site education for any pupil during the standard school week this should be recorded on the confirmation form below.

Schools are also required to confirm to the LA that they have robust arrangements in place to monitor and quality assure any alternative provision placements made.

Action for schools

Headteachers are asked to complete and submit the confirmation form for alternative provision placements made by Ealing schools - see download.

Please return to Ealing Council by email to by Wednesday 7 May.

See also School checklist when choosing an alternative provision - a checklist of factors which schools should consider when deciding that an alternative provision is of a suitable quality and that appropriate and robust monitoring arrangements are in place.
