Change to term dates to account for the additional bank holiday for the Queen's Jubilee

24 Sep 2021

To commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there is an additional bank holiday on Friday 3 June 2022.

The DfE have amended the Education (School Day and School Year) (England) Regulations to reduce the 2021/22 school year for maintained schools by one day to account for this additional bank holiday. This reduces the number of pupil contact days from 190 to 189.

As 3 June 2022 falls during the summer half term, we are required to amend our published term dates to identify another day of holiday elsewhere in the year.

We sought the views of schools consultative group, quadrant and heads group leads and trade unions in making our decision on when to set this day and received a range of views about the preferred day.

We are also aware that some schools have already allocated the extra non working day following the DfE notification.

We have therefore decided to set the additional holiday as Wednesday 27 July 2022, which changes the end of the summer term in Ealing's published term dates from Wednesday 27 July to Tuesday 26 July 2022.

For many schools the change to the end of term date, if adopted by the school, would release an occasional day, which could then be used by the school at another time of their choosing during the school year.
