Social Mobility Foundation: Free 2022 programmes for year 12 students

01 Nov 2021

Aspiring Professionals Programme (APP)

The APP supports high achieving Year 12/S5/Lower Sixth students from low income backgrounds across the UK to access top universities and careers. We offer support through our four pillars:

  1. Mentoring by a professional
  2. Tailored skills sessions and career workshops
  3. University application support and guidance
  4. Internships with top employers.

How students receive our four pillars of support is dependent on where they live. Please see below for further details of the programmes we offer.

Closing date for applications is 12 noon, Friday 10 December 2021. Please encourage your students to apply!

Eligibility Criteria

Watch our video to hear from SMF students

We will be holding webinars to introduce both school contacts and students to the programme:

As we are not able to visit schools and colleges this year to promote our programme, we will be offering tailored virtual presentations to schools. You can book your presentation via our booking form

Virtual support

Students across all programmes are offered virtual support via webinars and digital resources, either where their location inhibits in person interaction, or where social distancing restrictions are in place.

Why apply?

  • Each year, at least 60% of SMF students go onto Russell Group universities
  • 94% of students in 2018 said they wouldn’t have got their internship without the help of the SMF
  • IFS Studies show that the scale of our impact on elite university entry is akin to a candidate having 3 A*s at A-Level rather than 3 As.

“To anyone thinking of applying to the APP, I would say “do it!” Having support from people who want the best for you and want you to succeed gives you that extra boost of confidence to trust your capabilities and continue to have high ambitions.” – Sofia, 2020 cohort

“As an aspiring student who is keen to know more about the financial world, I found my internship experience to be very insightful and helpful. The individual support I received was also amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and would highly recommend it to others who are considering applying.” - Steve, 2020 Cohort
