21 May 2024

The Met office have issued a Yellow Thunderstorm Warning Valid from 12:00 to 23:59 on Tuesday 21 May 2024.

Outbreaks of rain or showers, locally slow-moving and heavy with thunderstorms, will spread northwest or develop locally during the day.

Where we see the heaviest showers and thunderstorms, we could see some impacts and the Met Office have issued a Yellow Thunderstorm Warning (Very Low Likelihood of Medium Impacts), valid 1200 to 2359 today.

Impacts could include difficult driving conditions, disruption to transport, isolated power outages and isolated flooding of homes and businesses. We could also see impacts from lightning such as power outages and infrastructure damage.

The rain and showers will gradually clear to the north during the evening and night, however, further rain or showers are expected to develop during tomorrow but not currently thought to be as heavy as today. Any rain or showers will clear to the north tomorrow evening and night.

Thursday to Sunday currently looks like seeing better conditions with sunny spells and a scattering of showers but many places could remain dry.

Temperatures will generally rise into the high-teens to low-20s Celsius. The warning is outlined above and the Flood Guidance Statement is also Yellow indicating a risk of surface water flooding today.
