Climate change - COP28

10 Nov 2023

What is COP 28 and what is its purpose?

COP is the Conference of Parties (COP), the decision making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which is made up of 198 Parties (197 countries plus the European Union). The Conference is an international climate summit, held annually, where world leaders gather to work together on solutions to tackle climate change.

The 2023 conference will be the 28th event, hence being called COP28. It is being held from 30 November until 12 December. In support of COP28 we encourage schools across Ealing to participated in active travel showing their commitment to help alleviate the climate crisis.

Did you know: Transport is the largest emitting sector of GHG emissions, producing 24% of the UK’s total emissions in 2020 (406 MtCO2e), according to Transport and environment statistics 2022 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

What can you do in your school?

So why not encourage families to join the movement today and choose a more sustainable way to travel and become Climate Heroes. Climate calculator - ClimateHero will help them to evaluate their success and improve their impact on climate change.

Let’s help to prevent climate change with one step at the time, by joining thousands of pupils and parents from Ealing schools who are walking, cycling, scooting and Park & Striding to and from school whenever possible. We can create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Ealing for all. And don’t forget to add your Stories to your Travel for Life (STARS) account.

Participate in Walk together on Friendship Friday/Odd Socks Day Anti-Bullying Week and Friendship Friday (kidscape.org.uk) Date 17 November 2023.

Clean Air Day is an air pollution campaign, engaging people through events and the media. We promote Go Green for Clean Air Day to Ealing schools.
