Teaching assistant courses

13 Nov 2023

Learn Ealing will be running the NCFE Supporting Teaching and Learning (Teaching Assistant) courses (Levels 2 and 3) from January 2024. These courses, which are government funded, are free to both the school and the learner (subject to status).

Induction day

An Induction day is being planned for the week commencing 11 December at Ealing Education Centre. Details to follow.

About the qualifications

The qualifications are designed to support new and established staff who work with children in the classroom and focus on the topics that are important to your school such as safeguarding, confidentiality, managing behaviour, communication, assessment, and wellbeing, etc, depending on the level being undertaken.

Level 2

The Level 2 course is suitable for staff or volunteers who wish or need to gain a qualification around working with the children in your school.

It will help them understand their responsibilities, how to work with children and the legislation they need to comply with. No previous experience is required but learners will be assessed for basic English skills before starting the course and will need to work in the classroom for an absolute minimum of 2 days a week.

Level 3

The Level 3 course is suitable for staff who already have the level 2 qualification and wish to progress further.

It will give them a more in depth understanding of the above topics and will encourage them to analyze and reflect on their day to day work. Learners will be assessed for basic English skills before starting the course and will need to be working in the classroom for an absolute minimum of 2 days a week.

Course delivery

Both courses will run from January to July and will be delivered mainly online in the evenings so as not to interrupt the school day. The online learning will be underpinned by a total of four face to face training days (held at the start and end of each term) at Ealing Education Centre. Dates and times to be advised.

Learners will gain their qualifications through a mix of written assignments, reflective accounts, on site observations and witness testimonies.

Each learner will be allocated a dedicated tutor/assessor who will guide them through what they need to do to achieve their qualification. There are no tests or exams, and previous success rates have been excellent.

Placements

We are also looking for training placements for prospective teaching assistants, so if you can offer voluntary positions for the duration of the course we would be very pleased to hear from you.
