Ealing Council's health improvement team, in collaboration with the Prevent education team, will be holding a free annual conference for schools on Tuesday, 19 January 2021 from 1.30 to 3pm.

This conference entitled 'Digital resilience in the era of COVID', will be delivered virtually and is for headteachers, deputy headteachers, SENCO and PSHE co-ordinators working in primary, secondary and special schools.

Speakers

Participants will listen to a range of expert and inspirational speakers including:

  • John North, from Exit UK, who will take us through his journey from being recruited into a far right extremist group to working with Exit UK to raise awareness of extremism. In this session, teachers will learn about signs to look out for if a pupil is being radicalised and how to help them
  • Mubina Asaria, Online Safeguarding Consultant from LGfL, will deliver a session on online safety and will share resources from Safer Internet Day
  • Victoria Baker, from the National Literacy Trust, will explain how we can be ‘digitally literate’
  • Lauren Moxon and Sonia Magan, from Woodlands Primary School will discuss how they are using online platforms to support wellbeing for pupils, parents and staff.

Bonus presentation for buy back schools

Harrow schools and Ealing schools that have purchased a health improvement package this academic year (2020/21) can also attend a 30 minute presentation, before the conference at 1pm (non-buy back schools can also attend for £30/per person).

This presentation entitled 'Me and my best friend anorexia: supporting our young people with eating disorders and mental health ,' will be delivered by Hope Virgo, an author and a multi award winning international leading advocate for people with eating disorders.

Hope has been described by Richard Mitchell, CEO of Sherwood Forest Hospital, as "sharing a very powerful story with a huge impact". Hope is also a recognised media spokesperson, having appeared on various platforms including BBC Newsnight, Victoria Derbyshire, Good Morning Britain, Sky News and BBC News.
