This year’s Early Years Training and Development Conference will focus on enriching children’s reading.
Enjoying books and reading stories from a very early age is crucial in the development of children’s learning as it; helps with their ability to understand words, uses their imagination and creativity, develops their speech, and supports listening, attention and social skills. The more that children experience language and are exposed to books, the more they will gain an interest and passion for them. Reading is so much more than just quiet time in a cosy corner. Young children need to be able to fully engage with stories and books and be able to respond to them with curiosity and enjoyment. This will promote the value and pleasure of reading and encourage an interest in reading throughout their lives.
Adults play a significant role in the development of reading skills in young children and this conference aims to help all early year’s practitioners and teachers to support children at the beginning of their reading journey; inspiring schools and settings to build an effective reading curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. The day will focus on motivating children to read for pleasure. Building on their first-hand experiences and interests as a stimulus to enrich shared narratives and raise attainment.
