With the school summer holidays fast approaching, we have been reminded that for some families in receipt of FSM (free school meals), the six week holiday can be a financially challenging time, particularly for families with multiple children.

Ealing Foodbank and Extended services have spoken about the best way to support our most vulnerable families during this time and have agreed the following:

  • Schools to invite FSM families to request a foodbank referral letter if they feel that the holiday period will significantly impact their ability to provide sufficient food for their family
  • Schools complete the letter (see template under downloads) and check the information is correct (name, address and number of beneficiaries in the household)
  • Schools print the letter onto school header paper and sign to confirm authenticity.

Families will then need to visit their nearest foodbank – see link below for a list of foodbanks and opening times:

Families can receive up to a maximum of six emergency food parcels during the summer holiday period (one a week). The letter will expire on 2 September 2017

Families that continue to require support will need to access a referral centre who can meet with them to discuss their long term needs.
