Calling all young artists: Christmas card competition

05 Oct 2023

It might be early to be thinking about Christmas, but it’s not too early to get your artistic skills into gear and enter our 2023 Christmas card competition.

All school age children are invited to take part in a competition to design a Christmas card that would be used by the leader of Ealing Council and its cabinet members, and senior council officers too – including the chief executive.

Winners’ artwork will be reproduced for official cards and may also be used during the festive period on the council’s social media channels. It may also be featured in the winter edition of Around Ealing magazine.

Email us your Christmas card design by 5pm, Friday 20 October. Winners will be announced week commencing 27 November. So do not delay; enter today!

Take part

The competition is open to anyone 18 or younger who attends a school in the borough.

The theme this year is ‘Christmas in the park’ and entrants can draw, colour or paint a design with the borough’s parks included. Designs could also include local landmarks or even family, friends and pets.

How to enter

There are three age categories for the Christmas card competition:

  • Six and under
  • seven-11
  • and 12-18 years.

To enter you need to send a photo or scanned image of your design by email to vaghelah@ealing.gov.uk and include contact details of a responsible adult (parent, carer or teacher). You must state which age category you are entering into and include your full name, age and school.

And your artwork needs to be on plain white A4 sized paper and in the landscape position as shown below:

Let your talent shine

Council leader Peter Mason said: “Judging the Christmas card competition is a bright point of my year, but can also be tricky as we have so many talented young artists.

“It’s a joy to send out Christmas cards with a real local connection, and I know that they bring a smile to everyone who receives them.”

The competition will be judged by Councillor Mason; Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, cabinet member for a fairer start; Councillor Deirdre Costigan, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action, and Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities.

Good luck!
