Step Into Teaching: graduate candidates available for school vacancies

07 Oct 2025

At the last ELP school recruitment and staff development committee, Step Into Teaching gave a presentation about the support they offer.

Step into Teaching (SIT) deploys graduate candidates into temporary school support staff vacancies for up to one year before they enter teacher training programmes.

This route benefits both schools and candidates:

  • Schools can temporarily fill support staff vacancies with graduates
  • Candidates gain valuable experience in education before progressing into teacher training
  • The programme helps create a pool of future trainee teachers, supporting teacher recruitment in Ealing

How it works

  • SIT act as the employer (similar to an agency)
  • Schools are provided with CVs and candidates to interview
  • SIT complete DBS and reference checks
  • Schools pay a fee which covers the candidate’s salary
  • There is no obligation to keep a candidate beyond the agreed period – if there are issues, one week’s notice can be given and the candidate will be moved
